Prince Edward County council heard a proposal on Tuesday about establishing a national marine conservation area in Lake Ontario.
The area Nature Canada proposed for the conservation area would stretch from Brighton in the west, to Kingston in the east, and south all the way to the border with the United States in the centre of the lake.
If established, a Marine Conservation area would prevent further commercial development of the waters in the affected area, but still allow recreational use.
The proposal was for the city to call on the federal government to begin the process to create a national marine conservation area, however the motion was deferred until after the upcoming election.
