According to the latest census Statistics Canada says the percentage of Canada’s population that are home owners has declined over the past 10 years.
The federal agency also says newly built homes are increasingly likely to be occupied by renters.
Meanwhile in the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, and Tyendinaga/Deseronto, the total number of households spending more than 30% of their income on housing in 2016 was 24.6%.
Last year that percentage had dropped to 18.6%.
As far as the number of Belleville CMA households living in unsuitable, inadequate or unaffordable housing goes, that percentage has declined over the past five years as well, from15.3% in 2016 to 11.1% in 2021.
