The entire emergency services sector, and especially police officers, are mourning the recent deaths of two police officers.
Toronto police officer, Cst. Andrew Hong, was killed after being shot at close range at a Tim Hortons in Mississauga while on his lunch break on Tuesday.
York Region police officer Travis Gillespie, originally from Cramahe Township and an East Northumberland Secondary School student, was killed after a collision in Markham.
Belleville’s Chief of Police Mike Callaghan says the incidents serve as a stark reminder.
“We’re as a community, policing community, we’re mourning the death of both of those officers and I can tell you coming from a policing family and having two sons who are on the road policing, it’s terrifying,” said Callaghan.
Meanwhile public condolence books are located at the front lobby of the Belleville police station for those for those wishing to pay respects to the fallen officers.
