Members of Belleville council have been receiving a lot of complaints about improper parking on side streets and they’re taking action.
Monday, at its regular meeting, council voted to have staff negotiate with the business now enforcing parking regulations to extend its service beyond 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week.
The business will now be asked to patrol streets and ticket vehicles during the evening, overnight, and on weekends. The extra cost will be covered by higher ticket revenue and a city reserve fund.
The extra patrols will last the rest of the year and the entire parking enforcement issue will come before the new council in the new year.
City Clerk Matt MacDonald said parking issues on side streets is getting worse with some of it caused by more people working from home and more multi-generational families.
