The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board will review its student transportation system over the next few months.
The budget for school busing is showing a deficit of $1.7 million and the review will look at ways to bring revenues more in line with costs.
The review will look at competitive bidding for busing services, walking distances, eligible rider qualifications, and bus routes.
The review would be finished early next year. The existing contract for busing expires after this year.
Meanwhile a Request for Proposals (RFP) process initiated by Triboard Transportation, which runs the busing system for HPEDSB and two other boards, will be reviewed in court in March of next year.
The Triboard School Bus Operators Association vehemently opposes the RFP process because of concerns it could put longtime local bus companies out of business due to competition from large companies.
