Queen Elizabeth II passed away Thursday afternoon at the age of 96, at Balmoral Castle.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk issued this statement on the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

It is with sadness that we learned of the Queen’s death. For many Canadians Queen Elizabeth II has been the only Monarch we have known. She is the longest-reigning British Monarch and the longest-serving female head of state in history. We join with all Commonwealth nations and peoples to extend our sympathies to her family and our deepest appreciation. We are grateful for her record-setting length of service to Canada and the world. May God bless the Queen.
The flags at all Belleville municipal buildings will be lowered immediately in her honour.
