It was the first day of school yesterday for most students and unfortunately the Belleville Police Service’s Traffic Safety Unit had no problem finding drivers speeding in school and community safety zones.
Officers report 18 drivers were ticketed for speeding in those zones Tuesday.
School and Community Safety zones feature lower speed limits because of the number of pedestrians and vehicles in those areas.
The fine for a speeding ticket in a zone is double that of a regular fine.
Belleville police will continue to focus in school zones until the end of the week.
