Development charges are on the way up in Brighton.
Every year council updates its Development Charges By-law to adjust for increases in the construction cost index.
Tuesday council passed a 17% increase to development charges.
The charges are levied against developers to pay the cost of increased municipal infrastructure required to service the new projects so those increases aren’t paid by all taxpayers in the community.
Effective immediately the development charges on a new single family or semi-detached home in urban Brighton will be $13, 263, up from $11,336.
