There are no cases of monkeypox in the Hastings Prince Edward area so far, but people are encouraged “to be vigilant.”
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ethan Toumishey reported to a meeting of the Hastings Prince Edward Board of Health on Wednesday.
Toumishey told Quinte News, “We have seen a number of cases in Ontario, over 500 cases in Ontario. So we’re continuing to watch.”
He encourages people in contact with others, that if they’re having symptoms or worried, they should go to see their health care provider to get tested.
“This continues to be important,” Toumishey says.
He indicates there have been vaccine clinics.
The doctor advises that if you have a rash that would have the little spots or pox, then you should “take action.”
“Across the province, we’re identifying cases. We’ve had, in the province overall, the vaccine clinics. So there has been a lot of work that’s been done on monkeypox . So we’re continuing to watch that. I would say that overall it’s encouraging that we’re on a downward slide.”
He also encourages people to check the board of health website for details.
