Quinte Conservation has installed new electronic gates at Vanderwater and Little Bluff conservation areas.
The new gates are operated by an access card given to annual pass holders.
Existing annual pass holders can validate their pass online to receive a card. New passes will now only be available through Quinte Conservation’s website.
Tammy Smith, Corporate Services Manager says, “Over the last two years, Little Bluff Conservation Area has undergone a series of improvement projects, and with the addition of the electronic gate we have been able to better manage visitor numbers and misuse of the area thus reducing the impact to the significant ecology. With these systems now in place we will be opening Little Bluff back up to annual pass holders all year long.”
The new gates are intended to address issues with vandalism and illegal dumping on the grounds while reducing work for staff.
While the pass system is changing, the pass loaning program at local libraries will continue as normal. A supply of the new cards will be provided to participating libraries to replace the existing laminated passes.
