K. Mulrooney Trucking Ltd. has been awarded the contract for Phase 2 of the reconstruction of Orchard Dr.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk, city council members, and members of the project took part in a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning to mark the start of the construction.
Phase 1 of the project included the reconstruction of Orchard Dr. from North Park Gardens to Prince of Wales Dr.
It also included Pringle Dr. from North Park St. to Orchard Dr.
The first phase was completed in 2021.
Phase 2 will include a total road reconstruction of the northern crescent of Orchard Dr. from the North Park Gardens west intersection to the North Parks Garden east intersection.
This will also include replacing the sanitary sewer and watermain, while adding a new underground storm sewer.
Existing roadway ditches will be filled.
The new roadway will also have a gutter and curb as well as a 1.5-metre-wide, AODA-compliant sidewalk on one side of the road.
Funding for the project was provided in part by the federal government’s Canada Community-Building Fund, also known as the federal Gas Tax fund.
The second phase of the project is now underway. Construction is expected to continue until late November of this year and then resume again next spring.
The project is expected to be completed by late August 2023.
