The first John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic has raised $135,747.29 for the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The funds are going to be put towards a new cart washer disinfector, to clean carts of surgical tools between procedures.
Wendy Warner, executive director of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, says they raised more than enough to pay for it.
“So it’ll pay for the cart washer disinfector which is about $125,000 and then the balance that’s left over, the other $10,000 we can put towards another piece of equipment,” Warner said.
John Smylie’s son, Ian Smylie, was present at the ceremony. He said that he thought his father would be happy with the results.
“He’d feel pretty good, I think he’d be proud of the community for coming together and all his family for coming together to do this,” he said. “The hospital was near and dear to his heart, it was a big part of his life.”
During the ceremony on Tuesday, Ian presented the foundation with an additional donation of $27,000.
