Ontario Provincial Police have made an arrest after a string of robberies throughout Eastern Ontario, including in Northbrook.
OPP says on August 12, just before 11 a.m., a person entered a business on Highway 41 in Northbrook. The person is alleged to have approached an employee, indicated they were armed, and demanded cash. The individual then fled the scene with the cash.
Two days later, just before 8 a.m., The Lennox and Addington Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police located the vehicle matching the description from the robbery in Northbrook. The person in the vehicle was identified by police and arrested in connection to the robbery.
The accused is alleged to be linked to robberies in Pembroke, Ont. And Mississippi Mills, Ont.
After an investigation, 63-year-old James Finnegan was charged with the following:
- Robbery with violence – sec. 344(1)(b) – three counts
- Disguise with intent – sec. 351(2) – three counts
- Flight from peace officer – s ec. 320.17
- Operation while prohibited – sec. 320.18(1)(a)
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – sec. 354(1)(a)
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 – sec. 354(1)(a) – two counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 – sec. 354(1)(a) – four counts
The accused appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on August 15th for a bail hearing and was remanded in custody. They are set to appear again on August 21st.
