Household Hazardous Waste could soon be coming to the Marysburgh Landfill.
Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole recommended on Thursday that council should approve and proceed with plans to set up a hazardous waste depot on the existing landfill site.
Previous hazardous waste pickups have been done from mobile pickup sites, opened on a temporary basis periodically.
Quinte Waste Solutions previously recommended to council that a permanent depot to accept hazardous waste would improve the amount of these materials kept out of landfills and that hazardous materials may be simply being tossed out or left abandoned, noting that municipalities like Belleville with a permanent site report 16% resident use per capita, compared to 9% in Prince Edward County which does not.
