The former Wellington Arena is being rezoned to allow for the building of an affordable housing complex.
The Prince Edward County Planning Committee approved the zoning change to Residential Type 3 to allow for a four-storey apartment building Wednesday.
The property is being developed by the Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation, who presented plans to construct a four-storey building containing 36 units. A detached townhouse on the property will offer an additional four units.
The property also will have a short walking path with trees and benches, and garden plots for the occupants.
The units will all be made available at below market rates.
The zoning change has been sent to council for final approval.
