It’s described as a “radical alternative to the conventional dining experience.”
Outstanding in the Field is set to come to Edwin County Farms in Prince Edward County August 13.
The Outstanding in the Field group travels across the world and partners with different farmers and chefs in each area to bring an outdoor table dining experience.
“The theme is to go to the places where food comes from, and celebrate those people that do the hard work of bringing food to the table,” founder Jim Denevan tells Quinte News.
“The chefs that are working with those farmers, oftentimes, their menus are composed of ingredients from the farms and so it’s an opportunity to get outside and celebrate.”
It is the first time the group is coming to Prince Edward County for an event.
Denevan says the decision to come to the Prince Edward County area was a combination of different factors.
“It was really pretty constant. People would say you need to come to Prince Edward County. Could you please come out to this part of Canada. People (here) like to celebrate the summer, be outdoors and by the lake,” Denevan said
“Then a farmer that has a significant farm comes to our event in the winter in Florida and says, “I have a beautiful spot.”
That farm would end up being Edwin County Farms. Kate, Nick & Lucas Sorbara are the hosting farmers for the event.
The head chef is Coco Gaona who runs Cultura Tiempo.
Denevan says there are more than locals that come to the events.
“Thirty to forty per cent of the people at the table are from outside the state or the province or outside the country,” Denevan tells Quinte News.
“It’s a way for people to get familiar with a place, sitting at a table in an interesting place they may have thought about going.”
There are anywhere between 120 and 150 seats at the table during an event.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at Outstanding in the Field’s website.
