An in-person public information centre (PIC) for new wastewater infrastructure in Wellington will take place on Thursday, August 11 from 6-8 pm.
The County will host the PIC at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street).
The PIC will focus specifically on the new equalization tank that will be constructed at the existing wastewater treatment plant in Wellington.
The equalization tank was originally identified in the Wellington Master Servicing Plan as an interim solution to address capacity issues at the existing wastewater plant until a new plant can be constructed.
The County proposes constructing the equalization tank directly to the west of the existing Wellington wastewater treatment plant. The equalization tank will provide a buffer during peak flows or extreme wet weather events and help maximize use of the existing plant’s capacity.
The equalization tank will be permanent and incorporated into the proposed new Wellington wastewater treatment plant when the existing plant is replaced.
Council awarded the design tender for the equalization tank to CIMA Canada Inc. in July 2021. Those designs will be presented at the PIC. The project is currently out to tender for construction services and is scheduled to close in late August. It is anticipated construction will begin in the fall of 2022.
A Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the proposed replacement of the existing Wellington wastewater treatment plant is currently underway. The Class EA study will identify and evaluate alternative design concepts for the new wastewater treatment plant. Preferred treatment design concepts will be selected to minimize technical, socio-cultural, natural environmental and economic impacts. Visit the County website to learn more about this project.
