The Trenton Golden Hawks have acquired goaltender Luka Dobrich from the GOJHL’s Chatham Maroons.
“Luka is a big, butterfly goaltender,” says Head Coach/General Manager Jerome Dupont in a media release. “Dobrich reads the game well and battles hard to keep the puck out. Looking at last season in Chatham, he was stellar. He was a big reason the Maroons did so well.”
The 6’1″, 190 pound 19-year-old goalie hails from Belle River, ON.
He is also the cousin of former Trenton Golden Hawk Stefan Dobrich.
Earlier in the summer, the Golden Hawks traded netminder Ethan Fraser from Lindsay and sent goalie Will Nguyen to Markham in a four-player deal.
“We were on the hunt for another goaltender. With Taylor aging out and Nguyen moving to Markham, we had an opening. Dobrich is going to be someone that pushes Ethan Fraser for the number one job in Trenton,” Dupont said, “That is exactly what we want to see in net, two goaltenders we can win with.”
The news comes as the 2022-23 OJHL schedule was released.
The Golden Hawks will open their season against the St. Michael’s Buzzers at home on Friday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Trenton will start the year with the first seven of nine games at home.
Online ticket sales will start Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
