Police Pursuit / K9 track
On July 26, 2022 at 1:36 a.m., Belleville Uniform Patrol officers noticed a van and trailer near a closed business on Maitland Drive. Officers stopped and noticed that the van had a fake paper licence plate. Police briefly spoke to the driver before they fled in the vehicle toward Highway 401. Police followed the vehicle but discontinued the pursuit for public safety reasons. A short time later, officers observed the vehicle on Frankford Road in Quinte West. With the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police, a spike belt was deployed, and the vehicle was disabled just north of Frankford. The Belleville Police K9 Unit and the Emergency Response Unit conducted a track for several kilometres without finding the suspect. Investigation revealed that the van and trailer were stolen from the Toronto area earlier this month. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Belleville Police Service or Quinte Crime Stoppers.
