Quinte West City Council approved a proclamation to recognize August 31 as “International Overdose Awareness Day.”
In the lead-up to the day, lights across the city will be lit in purple.
This would include the bridge and the Quinte West sign. The signs would be lit up in purple starting on August 24 and continue until the 31.
Other actions being taken include hanging an “International Overdose Awareness Day” banner inside Quinte West City Hall for the same length of time.
A temporary memorial space would also be created where loved ones and families would be able to attach ribbons, pictures or notes.
The memorial would be located in the area of the Mobile Community Resource Unit near the Chamber of Commerce building and Market Square.
