There is great news in Quinte West where it’s been announced that the Nestle property in Trenton has been sold.
The plant, which is in the process of closing, has been sold to Ed Lamers and Ewart McLaughlin of Tillsonburg Custom Foods.
Nestle and TC Foods issued a joint release on Tuesday.
The company is based in Tillsonburg and produces frozen chicken and fruit and vegetables, along with some meal kits,
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison was ecstatic upon learning the news.
“I’m very pleased and proud as mayor to say thanks to all involved in helping this deal transpire. That’s our Quinte Economic Development Commission and Quinte West’s own economic development team. Let’s hope that this is another era of longevity for a food manufacturing company in Quinte West.”
Lamers says TC Foods is incredibly excited for the Trenton acquisition which will provide them with the opportunity to expand operations, and offer products and services that will be highly complementary to their existing operations.
Nestle Canada President and CEO John Carmichael thanked current and former employees for their contributions calling it a privilege to have been part of the vibrant Trenton community for so many years. Almost 200 workers lost their jobs recently as Nestle’s began shutting down the plant.
He said they are pleased that a Canadian team will be taking over the property.
The release did not state TC Foods’ exact plans for the plant or how many people they plan to employ.
Lamers says they will take possession of the plant September 27.
