Promenade on Front officially opened for the summer today.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison and members of Quinte West Council took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning to mark the opening.
The two-month long pilot project will bring a new pedestrian-friendly zone on Front Street in Downtown Trenton.
As part of the project, the southbound lane of Front Street from Elgin Street to Dundas Street West will be closed to vehicle traffic until August 29, 2022.
This is to allow extended outdoor patios, entertainment, a children’s outdoor play area and outdoor dining and shopping.
Enhancements to RiverFront Square such as Adirondack chairs and a lit alleyway are also a part of the project.
“We’re excited to launch this pilot project and offer a new way to enjoy downtown Trenton this
summer,” said Linda Lisle, manager of economic development and tourism with the City of Quinte West in a release.
“Promenade on Front supports local businesses and provides more walkable spaces, as outlined in the City’s Tourism Development Strategy.”
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrsion says it’s a great opportunity to get around in the city.
“Promenade on Front presents the perfect opportunity to support our downtown businesses while
reconnecting with family and friends after two long years of pandemic restrictions,” Mayor Harrison said in the release.
Entertainment for this weekend includes a live performance by musician Chris McLeod on Saturday, July 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. in RiverFront Square.
