A memorial to honour Belleville’s fallen firefighters is in the works.
At city council’s meeting coming up on Monday, councillors will be asked to approve almost $50,000 for the Fire Fighter Memorial Monument.
Belleville Fire and Emergency Services is constructing a memorial garden at Station #1 to honour the community’s 13 firefighters who died in the line of duty.
The proposed monument will be placed in the centre of the garden.
The monument will feature plaques with the names of each fire fighter and will also feature a steel girder from the twin towers in New York City to commemorate those emergency service workers who lost their lives on 9/11.
Funding for the monument would come from the Capital Levy reserve fund.
Belleville City Council meets Monday at 4 p.m.
