Only about half of the Prince Edward County’s current council has declared intentions to run again in this fall’s municipal election.
Six councillors and Mayor Steve Ferguson are seeking re-election.
Ferguson who is hoping for a second term, will face competition from Dianne O’Brien who he defeated in 2018 and Kyle Mayne who unsuccessfully ran for a seat on council in 2014.
In Ward 1 (Picton), the only two candidates so far are Kate MacNaughton and Phil St-Jean who are both looking to be re-elected.
Brad Nieman and Phil Prinzen have each filed papers in Ward 2 (Bloomfield/Hallowell) where they’ll look to retain their seats.
Two candidates so far in Ward 3 (Wellington) where Heather Norlock and Corey Engelsdorfer are each hoping to earn that ward’s only seat on council.
There will be three seats to fill in Ward 4 (Ameliasburgh) where only one person, Bill Tkach, has filed papers.
Over in Ward 5 (Athol), there are three candidates so far, Sam Branderhorst, Tom Harrison and Elis Ziegler.
Incumbent Bill Roberts is running for re-election in Ward 6 (Sophiasburgh) which has one seat.
No one has filed papers to run in Ward 7 (Hillier) where there is one seat.
David Harrison and Ben Thornton are running for the sole seat in Ward 8 (North Marysburgh).
In Ward 9 (South Marysburgh) John Hirsch, the incumbent, is running to retain his ward’s only seat.
The municipal election is October 24, 2022.
