The increasing popularity of concerts and various festivals has led to Prince Edward County council considering changes to its Special Events by-law.
In a staff report, county staff says the current by-law governing special events is outdated, allowing only one special event per season on any given property.
A new by-law being proposed would allow a maximum three-day event to be held in any six day period in areas zoned for tourism. It would not permit special events in areas zoned residential or rural residential.
The new by-law would also allow three food trucks per event.
Bunkhouses for hospitality workers in Prince Edward County will also be up for discussion at a special meeting of county council’s planning committee Wednesday night.
Staff is recommending bunkhouses which resemble small homes, with up to six bedrooms, be allowed in areas zoned as “tourist commercial.”
The booming tourism industry in the county has increased demand for peak season employees but operators have had trouble attracting workers because of the high cost and availability of rental units.
Bunkhouses are seen as a way of providing affordable housing.
And Prince Edward County council’s planning committee will be asked to allow a mobile restaurant to operate at the Picton Marina.
TenaCity Capital, which now operates the marina and surrounding property at the end of Head Street in Picton, have applied for a rezoning of the area that would allow accessory uses near the harbour such as mobile restaurants.
“Pop up markets” are already permitted on the marina property.
Prince Edward County council’s special planning meeting will be held Wednesday night at 7 o’clock at Highline Hall in Wellington.
The meeting will be livestreamed.
