Once the COVID restrictions were lifted this year, students in schools throughout Belleville participated in fire safety education.
Belleville Fire and Emergency Services created a school visit program which included fire safety education, students met fire suppression personnel, and enjoyed hands-on activities, including fire truck tours.
Fire Prevention Officer Kyle Christopher tells Quinte News, “With COVID-19 we were not able to get into schools to teach fire safety and provide public education to the students.”
“So it was important for us to get back to talk to students and educate them about having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and also to have a home escape plan.”
Fire prevention and suppression staff visited 10 schools, after the COVID restrictions were lifted.
The schools visited included:
Belleville Christian School, Queen Elizabeth School, Foxboro Public School, Queen Victoria School, Harmony Public School, St. Joseph Catholic School, Harry J. Clarke Public School, St. Michael Catholic School, Prince of Wales Public School, and Susanna Moodie Elementary School
