On Friday night September 30 the Battle of Ontario will be played out at Belleville’s CAA Arena.
The Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs will face-off in a pre-season game.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk made the announcement at city council’s meeting Monday.
The Mayor said the city deferred the Senator’s rent payments during the pandemic shutdowns and the Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, who died earlier this year, took notice.
“And he wanted to show that gratitude. It’s a big financial loss for the Ottawa Senators to take their game out of an 18 thousand seat arena and give it to their farm team which as 45 hundred but it was because we stepped up and helped the Belleville Senators.”
The city deferred rent payments not only to the Senators but to all of the city’s tenants.
Only Belleville Senators season-ticket holders will be guaranteed tickets for the game if they wish to go.
