COUNCIL REMUNERATION
Prince Edward County’s Committee of the Whole will discuss how much county councillors are paid at its meeting Thursday afternoon.
Council will see a motion from Councillor Kate MacNaughton asking that councillors’ pay go up to $35,000 a year.
That would be close to a $10,000 increase from a councillor’s current remuneration of $25,300.
There is no mention of increasing the mayor’s pay which now sits at around $52,000 a year.
Councillors in Belleville earn around $35,000 a year with the mayor’s pay being over $100,000.
In Quinte West the mayor’s salary is $65,000 with councillors earning $26,000.
WELLINGTON HERITAGE CONSERVATION DISTRICT
Committee of the Whole will also see a presentation from a consultant regarding the recently finalized Wellington Heritage Conservation District Plan.
Wellington’s downtown core meets the province’s criteria for designation as a Heritage Conservation District.
Having an area designated as a heritage district allows the municipality to regulate renovations and new construction so
the distinct architecture, look, and character of the area is not significantly altered.
The committee will be asked to approve the plan and designate Wellington’s downtown core as a Heritage Conservation District Plan.
BULK BARN
A Bulk Barn store is getting set to open in Picton.
At its meeting Thursday afternoon Prince Edward County’s Committee of the Whole will deal with a request that the Bulk Barn be allowed a bigger sign on its facade than is currently permitted in the county’s sign by-law.
The Bulk Barn would be located in the former Sobey’s store location on Picton’s Main Street.
