It was a big night for those involved with Quinte’s state of the art hospice palliative care centre.
Monday night, Hospice Quinte celebrated this year’s milestones which included the opening of the Stan Klemencic Care Centre, which saw its first resident welcomed on October 25, 2021.

During the ceremonies, Hospice Quinte outgoing President Bill MacKay presented Community Spirit Awards to volunteers John Whelan and Harold Brennan with the organization’s former Heart and Home Building Campaign in recognition of their ongoing support and dedication.

A posthumous award was presented to Heather Williams in honour of her late husband, John Williams, who co-chaired the campaign prior to his death in Feburary 2022.
The Heart and Home Building Campaign, launched in May 2019, raised over $9.2 million to support the development of the Stan Klemencic Care Centre.

Incoming Board President, Kim Lander, recognized retiring board members Michael Piercy, Sue Thoms, Lisa Campbell, Shari Pinault, Jeff Tureski and Bill MacKay for their years of service.
The night concluded with Hospice Quinte announcing a new fundraising initiative called “The Comfort of Home Campaign.” The centre will be working to raise $500,000 to assist with operations and services provided at Stan Klemencic Care Centre.
Donor Relations and Communications Manager, Sandi Ramsay, says the centre has already raised over $100,000 for the campaign through an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.
In its first six months of operation the Stan Klemencic Care Centre served 79 residents and their families, provided 465 in-home visits, 1,118 supportive phone calls and 2,617 hours of care.
Hospice Quinte offers a number of ways for people to donate including its Give Every Month (GEM) membership, Lifetime Giving Wall where donors of more than $5,000 will be recognized on the main foyer wall at the centre, and Provide a Day of Care where a donation of $1,500 will provide a day of world-class palliative care to six hospice residents.
Hospice Quinte serves a population of over 110,000 in Quinte West, Belleville, Deseronto, Tyendinaga Township and Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
