With the lifting of most mask mandates and sanitizing regulations recently in Ontario many public transit services have discontinued the practice of “deep cleaning” the interior of their buses.
However that’s not the case with Belleville Transit. The regular and vigorous sanitizing of the city’s buses will continue.
Belleville Transit Operations Manager Paul Buck says while it’s known that cleaning surfaces isn’t especially effective against COVID-19 it still helps against other viruses.
“We know that coming through the COVID pandemic everybody kept saying well there’s no more colds and no more flu and we think that could tie directly back to the amount of deep sanitizing that was being done by everyone and we just kind of want to keep that going just to help out as much as we can.”
Halting the deep cleaning would not save Belleville Transit a significant amount of money.
Meanwhile while masks are no longer mandatory on city buses Belleville Transit strongly encourages riders to wear them.
