While public input continues to be accepted on a new by-law regulating taxi companies, limousine companies and businesses such as Uride, Belleville council has approved an increase in taxi fares.
At the request of Central Taxi’s parent company Coventry Connections, council approved an increase to fares of 10% at its meeting Monday.
Council agreed 10% was reasonable in this era of increasing gas prices and high inflation.
The increase means Central Taxi’s rate per kilometre will go to $2.20 from $2.00 and the drop-rate will go up to $4.40 from $4.00.
