A big light industrial and warehouse operation is coming to Belleville’s industrial park.
At Monday’s council meeting Mayor Mitch Panciuk announced that the city had sold 110 acres of land at the end of College Street East to what he called a well-known internationally recognized company.
The land was sold for just over $4 million.
Panciuk says a lot of jobs will be coming but few details could be released yet.
“Residents of Belleville know that we do not sell industrial serviced land unless we have specific commitments on not just the type of structure and the number of jobs but also a timeline on when they will start. All of those commitments are part of this agreement but we are unable to speak about them today.”
The mayor said exact details will be released as site and construction plans are submitted to the city over the coming months.
A single company will run the development and construction is expected to begin this year.
Panciuk said that the provincial government’s commitment to build another exit off Highway 401 into the industrial park was a crucial factor leading the company to agree to locate in Belleville.
