Prince Edward County’s Destination Marketing Organization “Visit The County” continues to take shape with the appointment of its first board of directors.
Seven directors were chosen from a pool of 33 applicants and includes a mix of those involved in and benefitting from tourism, as well as non-industry types.
Christal Agostino, Mikki Arends, Rachel Baque, Sarah Doiron, Sherry Karlo, Rebecca Mackenzie, and Charles McKee have been appointed to a two year term.
John Hirsch will represent council on the board until the end of this council’s term this fall.
The DMO is a non-profit entity that will work closely with The County to address tourism management, as well as marketing, while promoting the community as an attractive travel destination and dynamic place to live.
The board’s first meeting is June 21.
Visit The County still has to hire a Strategic Implementation Lead who will lead day-to-day operations.
The municipality has also reached an agreement with Stay PEC on its portion of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT).
At the Committee of the Whole meeting on June 9, council agreed to recognize Stay PEC as a stand-alone tourism entity, eligible for a portion of the MAT revenues.
The majority of MAT funds will go to Visit The County.
The agreement will go to council for ratification on June 21.
The agreement also expresses a desire for both DMOs to work in partnership to support tourism marketing and management.
