Docs by the Bay Physician Recruitment and Retention, which works to bring more doctors to the Quinte West and Brighton regions, wants to connect with potential doctors before they even study medicine.
Local high school and university students interested in a career in medicine are invited to Docs by the Bay’s fourth annual Medical School 101 Information Session.
The presentation, which will be held on ZOOM Thursday, June 23 at 6 p.m., will provide information like the different pathways to becoming a doctor and admission requirements to medical schools.
There will also be a panel of local doctors and medical residents and students to answer questions.
Docs by the Bay Manager Paula Mason says, “It is important for us to connect early on with local students who are interested in medicine, so that we can begin to develop relationships with them as they proceed through their education. “We hope that these students will decide to return to the area to practice medicine one day. This makes our recruitment much easier, as they already know what a great area we live in, so we don’t have to convince them of that. We just have to let them know we want them to come back home.”
Students wishing to attend should email Mason at pmason@docsbythebay.ca to register, including their school and grade.
