An important part of the development of a new fairgrounds for the Belleville Agricultural Society will be discussed by Belleville city council Monday.
City staff is recommending that Cobourg Development Services extend sanitary services into the new exhibition grounds along Black Diamond Road in the area of Highway 37. The road between Highway 37 and Cannifton Road will be repaved.
Cobourg Development’s bid of close to $12.2 million was the lowest of the four tenders received but still $2 million over the budgeted amount.
Quickly increasing construction costs recently are seen as the reason tenders received were all higher than staff initially expected.
The contract also includes the building of a driveway into the new fairground site and the installation of lighting there.
While much of the work is to be done this year, some will take place in 2023.
