John Smylie, one Quinte West’s most respected businessmen and philanthropists will be laid to rest Friday.
The former owner of Smylie’s Independent Grocer passed away June 1, 2022 at the age of 64.
The funeral is being held at the National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton.
Smylie was a former Honourary Colonel of Squadron 436 and was Honourary Colonel of 8 Wing CFB Trenton at the time of his passing.
He was also a strong supporter of the Military Family Resource Centre and the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The City of Belleville announced it will lower the flag at City Hall Friday to honour Smylie.
Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams spoke about Smylie in the House of Commons Thursday calling him a community leader, true friend and family man.
