Plans for new residential construction is driving an upcoming building boom in the City of Belleville.
The city issued 131 building permits last month with a total construction value of just over $55 million.
Plans to build 68 new residential units were responsible for well over half of that total with a value of $37.3 million.
Last month’s permit number and dollar value far exceed those of May 2021 when just 80 permits were issued valued at $12.5 million.
For the year-to-date, permits for projects worth almost $89 million have been issued in Belleville, about double the value of the same period last year.
