May is Thank A Farmer month.
Resi Walt is with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture as a Member Service Representative. She is also a Prince Edward County farmer.
She says farming is not for the faint of heart.
“It’s a blood, sweat, and tears kind of job. It’s a busy time of year right now obviously. We’re all trying to get crops in the ground. It’s just a very high stress time. There’s a lot of added factors right now with the cost of diesel and the cost of fertilizer.”
Walt says the cost of running a farm has recently skyrocketed.
“Right now the cost of putting a crop in the ground has pretty much doubled. It had a lot to do with the sanctions that had been put on Russia. Unfortunately we get a lot of our fertilizer from Russia.”
