Belleville police responded to 83 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on May 26, 2022 to 5 a.m. on May 27, 2022.
Assault Bodily Harm
Belleville Police responded to the west end of the city on Thursday night around 8:30 p.m. at the request of paramedics following an assault. Officers arrived to learn two men had gotten into a fight and one man had been hit in the head with a baseball bat. The victim was taken to Belleville General Hospital with a serious head wound and remains there for further evaluation. Officers arrested a 50-year-old local man and charged him with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. He was held for a show cause hearing today (Friday).
Domestic Mischief
Belleville police were called to an east end home on Friday morning around 3:15 regarding a disturbance. Officers arrived and learned an intoxicated male had broken several items within the home. Prior to police arrival, the man had left the scene. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and the man a short time later. A 34-year-old Belleville man was taken to police headquarters and released with a court date in June. The man’s name is not being released to protect the victim’s identity.
