173 “Royal Tiger” Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS) conducted a two-day field training exercise (FTX) at Batawa Ski Hill on May 14-15.
The FTX, called Exercise TIGERS UNITE, featured 32 air cadets conducting several exciting survival-based challenges throughout the weekend. The cadets utilized skills learned previously to build fires, improvise shelters, and even manage injuries in the field with a mock first-aid scenario.
The senior cadets, aged 16-18, planned and carried out the exercise under the supervision of members of the Canadian Armed Forces who oversee the Cadet Program.
“Aircrew survival training is a key part of the Air Cadet Program which teaches youth useful skills that will serve them throughout their lives,” said Training Officer Captain Darius Soo Lum. “As we return to in-person activities we are thrilled to offer a dynamic program to youth in the Quinte area where they can meet friends and have fun all while learning important skills.”
Each Air Cadet unit conducts an annual (air crew survival) adventure exercise where cadets can practice different techniques such as preparing a fire, building a shelter, or making themselves visible to the rescue team.
173 RCACS parades on Wednesday evenings from 6 – 9 p.m. at Trenton High School. New cadets are welcome any time.
