A major reconstruction project on part of Picton’s Main Street will begin soon.
Tuesday night, Prince Edward County council accepted a bid from R.W. Tomlinson Limited for $5,999,170 after taxes.
There were two bids for the contract which will see reconstruction and infrastructure replacement from Bridge Street to Johnson Street in the area of Shire Hall this year.
The second phase of the project from Johnson Street to Spencer Street is expected to be completed next year. No contract has been awarded for that work.
The proposed 2022 work includes reconstruction of sanitary and storm sewers, new watermain construction, road base and pavement reconstruction, curb and gutter and sidewalk reconstruction.
Existing decorative street light fixtures and standards between Bridge Street and Johnston Street will be replaced with the same style fixtures and standards that were installed during the Main Street reconstruction between Chapel Street and Bridge Street in 2016.
