“Addressing the gas prices is a difficult nut to crack but we are promising a rebate should we form government again – on July 1 for six months, 5.7 cents a litre.”
Smith says his government has taken action on lowering costs by removing the licence plate renewal fees and holding down increases in electricity prices.
Smith says getting hydro costs under control has led to a future of thousands more good jobs in the province.
“All of the auto makers, all of them that are operating in Ontario, have made multi-billion dollar investments in manufacturing facilities for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles.”
He admits his first seven years as an MPP were difficult because he was a member of the opposition but since the Progressive Conservatives took over in 2018, he’s been able to achieve a lot for the region, especially in health care and he hopes voters remember that when they go to the polls.
“Stabilizing Quinte Health Care’s funding formula which has been essential to stabilizing our hospitals. We’ve got a stand-alone nursing school at Loyalist College now. Three hundred nurses are going to be going through there and hopefully staying and working in our region. We built a brand new Quinte West health hub, a community health centre right next to TMH.”
Smith adds four new long term care homes are also coming to the Bay of Quinte region.
And he says he hopes to be the region’s MPP when ground is finally broken on the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
