The local unemployment rate went down in April.
Statistics Canada reports the rate for the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area, which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Tyendinaga/Deseronto, and Stirling-Rawdon, dropped from 3.5% in March to 3.1% in April.
That number is almost 9% lower than a year ago, when the April, 2021 unemployment rate was 12%.
The national unemployment rate fell to another record low.
The unemployment rate came in at 5.2% for April compared with the previous record low of 5.3% set in March.
The economy added another 15,300 jobs.
Ontario’s unemployment rate rose slightly from 5.3% in March to 5.4% in April.
