Quinte Health Care will make dozens of temporary beds across its four hospitals permanent beds thanks to more funding from the provincial government.
Tuesday, local MPPs Todd Smith and Daryl Kramp announced an additional $4.2 million in operational funding for QHC in 2022-23.
That is an increase of 2.5% from the last fiscal year.
A press release from Smith’s office states that in addition, more than $9.8 million will go to Quinte Health Care to support 48 new patient beds.
QHC Communications Director Catherine Walker tells Quinte News these temporary surge beds have been in operation throughout the course of the pandemic but will now become permanent.
President and CEO Stacey Daub calls their four hospitals the bedrock of their communities and says the investment will help to sustain the beds needed in the community and support the rapid population growth happening across Hastings and Prince Edward.
Smith says the added funding and additional beds will help to eliminate hallway health care in our local communities.
Kramp adds local hospitals have gone above and beyond during the pandemic to provide exceptional care and the province’s investment will allow that to continue.
