More homes and businesses on the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation will be able to connect to natural gas for the first time as part of Phase 2 of the province’s Natural Gas Expansion Program.
Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Daryl Kramp joined Enbridge Gas and Tyendinaga Mohawk Council for Tuesday’s announcement which will result in new natural gas connections for about 126 homes and businesses.
Tyendinaga Mohawk Council Chief R. Donald Maracle says the expansion project will provide reliable and affordable heating to many residents and will support economic development across the community.
A press release from MPP Kramp states the average household could save up to 50% per year in energy costs by switching to natural gas from costlier fuel sources.
Businesses are expected to save up to 30% per year on energy costs.
