It’s a special week in the City of Belleville this week. A delegation from Lahr, Germany, led by its Oberburgermeister Markus Ibert, will arrive Wednesday.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the twin-city relationship between Belleville and Lahr.
The two communities twinned in 1972, a time when the Canadian military maintained a base in Lahr.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk says the relationship has evolved over time.
“History brought us together and I think friendship made us family but now we need to have more than just our history to tie us and that’s why we’re focused on municipal affairs and business.”
The Lahr delegation will tour the area, municipal facilities and industry, and a business conference will be held Thursday at Loyalist College.
The visit will end late Sunday.
