Sunday, May 1 is Doctors’ Day in Canada and Docs by the Bay Physician Recruitment and Retention would like to extend its most sincere appreciation to all of its dedicated doctors who go above and beyond, caring for their patients on a daily basis. Once again this year, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by our doctors, as they continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
Doctors’ Day was first recognized as the official day of appreciation for physicians in 2011. It is celebrated annually on May 1, the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe, the first woman to practise medicine in Canada.
“We are so proud of our local physicians and want to thank them for their dedication, care and commitment to their patients and to our community,” said Aleesha Camp, chair of Docs by the Bay Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee.
This year, the Ontario Medical Association is asking the public to recognize their doctors in a colourful way. Visit www.doctorsday.ca to choose a coloured tile which reflects your appreciation. These tiles can then be shared on social media with the hashtag #DoctorsDay and will be combined to create a giant thank you image made up of all the coloured tiles. This will be unveiled on its website on May 1, 2022.
You can also recognize your Doctor as a “Shining Start by going online to www.tmhfoundation.com and making a donation in their honour. Funds raised support the purchase of priority medical equipment for Trenton Memorial Hospital.
Docs by the Bay is sponsored by the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, the City of Quinte West and the Municipality of Brighton. For more information, or if you know of a medical student, resident or physician interested in becoming a “Doc by the Bay”, please contact Paula Mason, Manager – Physician Recruitment and Retention at pmason@docsbythebay.ca.
