It will take a while to become a reality but it seems Belleville and area could benefit economically by the building of a new Highway 401 exit on the east side of the city.
Appearing on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Friday, Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy said the so-called Belleville East Arterial Road, or BEAR, is definitely part of the planning for a Highway 401 widening project from Pickering east to Brockville.
“The BEAR, the arterial ramp, and of course that process is moving forward. You know we’re doing some of the work to widen some of the bridges and the bridge there.”
The Highway 401 widening was part of the Ford government’s budget announced Thursday but it can’t be passed until after the provincial election is held June 2.
