Hastings Prince Edward District School Board has been recognized for its fundraising efforts as well as its commitment to engaging students during the pandemic.
The Terry Fox Foundation recently honoured the board for reaching $1.2 million in donations since it began fundraising for the cause in the 1980s.
Schools participate in annual Terry Fox Run/Walk events every September and raised $65,895 in 2021.
Director of Education Katherine MacIver says she is proud of students’ efforts noting that events like the Terry Fox Run are a way for students to connect with their communities and support a worthy cause.
The board also received a BRAVO! Award of Excellence from the Canadian Association of Communicators in Education for its efforts to keep kids and families engaged in learning during the early days of the pandemic.
When the pandemic hit and schools were closed, there was a challenge to keep students connected to learning as many didn’t have access to technology.
A team led by Communications and Privacy Manager Kerry Donnell created the No-Tech Learning Weekly Newspaper Ads.
The full-page, colour ads ran in eight weekly newspapers for 14 weeks offering new, fun and engaging activities for elementary and high school students.
