Lots of people in the area are looking to rent apartments and that demand has created fertile ground for scammers.
Belleville police report that on Wednesday a resident responded to a rental ad on Kijiji and ended up emailing a deposit to secure the apartment.
Unfortunately the hopeful tenant could no longer find the person he sent the money to and the address in question was not a legitimate rental property.
Police again warn people to investigate offers thoroughly before sending any money to an unknown person.
